Electric Cars Take Centrestage at Auto Expo 2018:

The electric car is the new buzzword in the Motown. Many carmakers displayed a positive intent by showcasing their electric vehicles. All the electric cars stole the limelight and glittered with the glory.

So, this year’s Auto Expo 2018 at Greater Noida was electrifying. We bring you some of the future electric cars from all big brands – Indian and Foreign that shone at the Auto Expo 2018.

Maruti Suzuki e-Survivor at Auto Expo 2018:

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. unveiled an electric concept car e-Survivor SUV at the Auto Expo 2018. The Suzuki e-Survivor features four in-wheel electric motors.

However, Suzuki projected it as a 4X4, twin-seater vehicle with an open roof. With extremely short overhangs at both the front and rear, it makes the e-Survivor very compact. The car also has autonomous driving capabilities.

Tata Racemo+- at Auto Expo 2018

Surprisingly, Tata Motors also showcased the electric version of its sports car ‘Racemo+-‘ at this year’s Auto Expo. The Home-grown carmaker unveiled Racemo electric concept at the Auto Show. It is powered by a 200hp electric motor with 210Nm of peak torque.

It has the lithium-ion battery pack. Tata Racemo+- is a two-seater that features a 6-speed AMT transmission. Besides, the electric car can travel 350km on a single charge. Tata Motors claims that the car can do 0-100kmph within 6 seconds.

Hyundai Ioniq at the 2018 Auto Expo:

Korean car giant, Hyundai, also brought its electric car Ioniq to the 2018 Auto Expo. The new Hyundai Ioniq is a compact five-door sedan which comes in three versions – Fully Electric, Plug-in and Hybrid. It is powered by 118hp electric-motor with 295Nm of peak torque. It has a 28.9kWH battery.

Ioniq EV can touch 0-100kmph in just 10.2 seconds. It has a maximum speed of 165 km/h and the range of 280 km on a single charge. The electric Ioniq is expected to command a price in the range of Rs. 25 lakh to Rs. 30 lakh. When launched, the car will compete with Honda Accord Hybrid and Toyota Camry Hybrid.

Honda Urban EV Concept at Auto Expo 2018:

Honda recently unveiled the EV concept an all-electric, urban EV at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The Honda Urban EV concept manifests Honda’s future plan for the electric cars.

The concept car is purely electric with a muscular built. The most stunning future of this car is the wrap-around panoramic dashboard screen. However, Honda did not reveal much of the details and specs of this car.

BMW i3 at Auto Expo 2018:

BMW also showcased one of its compact electric cars, the i3s, at the on-going Auto Expo 2018. It comes with a 181Bhp electric motor which delivers a peak torque of 269Nm. Besides, the car has a 33kWH battery. It can touch 0-100kmph within 6.9 seconds. So, the car has a range of 280km.

Mercedes Benz EQ t Auto Expo 2018:

German automotive giant, Mercedes-Benz, put on display it’s futuristic electric car, the EQ Concept at the Auto Expo 2018. Mercedes claims that EQ Concept features a dual-electric motor that delivers a power output of 400hp. The all-new EQ concept is powered by a lithium-ion battery. So, EQ can travel 500km on a single charge. It can touch 0-100kmph within 5 seconds.

Renault Trezor Concept and Renault Zoe electric cars at Auto Expo 2018:

French carmaker, Renault, also showcased two electric cars at the Auto Expo 2018. One of them is Renault Trezor and the other is Zoe e-Sport. Trezor gets its powertrain from a Formula E car which delivers 348bhp with a 380Nm of peak torque. Moreover, the Trezor is a two-seater car that can run 0-100kmph within 4 seconds. The car packs two air-cooled batteries – one at the front and another at the rear. However, Renault did not specify the maximum range of the Trezor.

Renault also displayed the Zoe E-Sport Concept, which is already being sold in most of the European countries. According to Renault, the Zoe e-sport is ideal for the Indian market.

Additionally, the car features two engines using high capacity permanent magnet technology to achieve a total power of 340 kW, around 460 hp. These engines are supplied by two batteries with a storage capacity of 40 kW that allow full power to be achieved. So, Renault Zoe e-Sport Concept can reach 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds. It has a top speed of 210 Km/h.

Uniti at Auto Expo 2018:

Uniti is a Swedish automotive start-up company founded by Lewis Horne and his team. The company showcased its electric car named Uniti Electric at the Auto show. Uniti is a five-seater electric compact car. It can drive for upto 200kms on a single charge.

Furthermore, Uniti is the most exciting car that features a recyclable carbon fiber body and an organic composite interior. The company has a joint-venture with Delhi-based Bird Group to launch the cars. So, you can expect Uniti to come to India by as early as 2020.

In 2020, there are going to be so many options to buy electric cars. So, you can wait until 2020; if you are looking to buy a new car in the near future.
