In this article we have compared Tata Zest with the rest in the sub-4 meter segment. Tata Zest has joined the race with the likes of Honda Amaze, Suzuki DZire and Hyundai Xcent. We bring to you how well it contests with the competitors, where we have first compared Tata Zest Revotron with other Petrol cars in the segment on 25 comparison points.

Compared Tata Zest Engine & Transmission:

Tata Zest’s 1.2L Revotron is the only turbocharged and the most powerful engine among all with 88.7 BHP of power @ 5000 rpm & 14.27 Kgm torque at a lower 1750-3500 rpm range. Advantage – Tata Zest.

All the models compared here; provide a 5 speed manual transmission. However, only the Tata Zest provides ‘Multi-Drive Mode‘ which lets the driver choose the engine performance according to driving conditions. Advantage – Tata Zest.

Compared Tata Zest Space:

Tata Motors has created the Zest with bigger size. The length, width and height dimensions are the maximum among all for the Zest. Add to this the longest wheelbase of 2470mm; making it more spacious. Also the ground clearance of 175mm, which is the most among all, making it perfect for the Indian road conditions. Advantage – Tata Zest. (The height of Amaze is lowest and from the point of ‘Centre of Gravity’, Amaze has an advantage & hence; so shown in the diagram)

However, the Zest lacks in the boot size which is only 360 litres; far less as compared to 400 litres of Amaze and 407 litres of Xcent. The Zest’s kerb weight of 1135kg is also the highest among the all.

Compared Tata Zest Steering & Suspension:

The Zest provides electric power assisted steering (EPAS); which is common to other models. However, the turning radius of 5.1 meters for the Zest is a bit high. The Zest provides tyre size of 185/60 R15 which is bigger than Amaze and Xcent. Advantage – Tata Zest.

The front suspension of the Zest includes McPherson Struts and an anti-roll bar, which provides stability. The rear suspension for the Zest has a Twist-Beam design which is similar for other models.

Compared Tata Zest Safety & Convenience:

The Zest’s front brakes are ventilated discs and rear brakes are drum. The Zest comes with an ABS unit and two front airbags, all of these are common to other models.

The Zest provides an Automatic Climate Control unit alongwith Dzire & Xcent, except Amaze.

Compared Tata Zest Performance:

The Zest Petrol’s ARAI certified fuel average is 17.6 KM/L, which is a bit low as compared to other cars. However, the Zest’s fuel tank of 44 litres is the biggest among all.

Compared Tata Zest Price:

The top end XT variant of the Zest compared here comes at only Rs.5,99,000/- (ex-showroom Delhi) which is the lowest price among all.

Verdict:

When compared Tata Zest statistically and overall the Zest Revotron is technically a superior car on the paper. The Tata Zest ticks most of the boxes against the competition; faring quite well in the key areas of Engine & Transmission, Space & Comfort, Safety & Convenience.
