Tata Kite Twin Cars: What We Know So Far:

Tata Motors is reportedly working on its upcoming Twin-cars code-named the ‘Kite’, which will be launched in Indian market in future. The move is believed to be aimed at phasing out the aging Tata cars – the Indica & Indigo. One of them is the ‘Kite hatchback’ which will replace the Tata Indica & the ‘Kite Sedan’ is likely to replace the Tata Indigo in future. Both the Kite twins are based on Tata Indica’s XO platform and they will sport new design concept and advanced features.

Tata Kite Engines:

Both the Tata Kite Twins will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a re-engineered 1.05-litre 3-cylinder diesel engine. While the 1.2-litre petrol unit will be an all-new 3-cylinder engine, the 1.05-litre 3-cylinder diesel mill will be the downsized version of the 1.4L engine used in the Indica & Indigo cars. The 1.2L petrol engine is expected to produce upto 75bhp, whereas the power output of 1.05L diesel engine is expected to be upto 70bhp.

The Kite hatch will be positioned in the entry-level hatchback (B segment) – below the Tata Bolt and it will compete with Maruti Celerio & Hyundai i10. The Kite sedan will be an entry-level sub-4 meter sedan, which is likely to be positioned below the Tata Zest. In this price bracket, currently, there are no products to compete with the Kite sedan. However, despite the launch of Bolt & Zest, Tata Motors is still chasing the much needed numbers. The company is looking at the Kite Twins to get ‘high volume’ sales just like the Indica & Indigo twins did. Tata Motors is hoping the Kite Twins to ‘click’ and get those numbers, so the company could recover its lost position of the ‘top-3’ car-makers in India in the future.

Tata Kite Twins Price:

Tata Kite Twins are expected to be launched sometime in the late 2015 or early 2016. Although Tata Motors has not disclosed their full prices, features & official nameplates yet, the price of Kite hatchback is speculated to be between Rs. Rs. 3 lakh – Rs. 4 lakh, whereas for the Kite sedan it is expected between Rs. 3.5 lakh to 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
