The 2020 Delhi Auto Expo was conducted on February 6 to 14 at Knowledge City, Greater Noida. 1. Hero Electric AE-47: Upcoming electric bikes in India

The Hero Electric AE-47 is a sports bike that gets power from a 4 kW electric motor, which will make it strong enough to compete with Revolt RV400.sports bike

The AE-47 was one of the biggest attractions at Hero Electric’s Auto Expo pavilion. However, the official name of the motorcycle could be different. The company plans to appoint 40 to 50 dealers initially. Also, the motorcycle may not be an affordable one. In fact, the Hero will sell it as a lifestyle product. The Hero AE-47 will be powered by a 4 kW electric motor which helps it sprint from standstill to 60 km/h in 9 seconds. It will have a top speed of 85 km/h. The bike has a riding range of 85 km in Power mode and 160 km in Eco mode. The charging of the battery will take 4 hours.

Key features include full-LED lighting, disc brakes at front & rear, upside-down front fork and cruise control. Besides, the motorcycle gets a digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity as a standard fitment. However, the AE-47 will not be launched in 2020. The company already has three other products to be launched in the year.

2. Vespa Elettrica

The second in the list of upcoming electric bikes in India is Vespa Elettrica. Piaggio Group showcased the Vespa Elettrica for the second time in India this year. Reports say that the company wants to launch the scooter by June this year. However, Vespa Elettrica is already on sale in Europe & will be Piaggio Group’s first electric two-wheeler in India. In India, the Vespa Elettrica was displayed with a 4 kW electric motor which is powered by a 4.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. With its present specs, the Elettrica has a range of 100 km on a single charge in eco mode and 70 km in power mode. It takes 4 hours to fully charge the battery. Vespa Elettrica in India was displayed with a 200 mm disc at the front and a 140 mm disc at the rear. “Vespa Connectivity” with TFT colored instrumentation may also feature on the Indian model.

3. Bird ES1: Upcoming electric bikes in India

The Bird ES1 electric scooter offers full LED lighting, digital display, and disc brakes on both wheels. This scooter has a sleek design, minimalistic usage of decals, and decent performance, focusing on daily use. The Bird ES1 features a unique LED headlamp.

This scooter is 1,782 mm long, 727 mm wide, and 1,087 mm high. It has a wheelbase of 1,217 mm long while the seat height is only 720 mm. The ground clearance is a healthy 140 mm. Bird ES1 is one of the 5 upcoming electric bikes in India.

The Bird ES1 gets power from a 60V, 2 Ah battery pack and has a top speed of 35 km/h. Suspension duties are carried out by a telescopic fork at the front and twin springs at the rear.

Bird Automotive has not yet announced the price tag and a launch date for the scooter. However, the ES1 will get a manageable price tag being a new entrant.

The market for maxi-scooters is still at an infant stage in India. With a petrol engine, you have the options of Suzuki Burgman Street 125 and the upcoming Aprilia SXR 160 and Aprilia SXR 125. However, Okinawa now wants to launch an electric maxi-scooter. Okinawa Cruiser is also one of the names in the list of upcoming 5 electric bikes in India. The Okinawa Cruiser featured extensive chrome usage on the handlebar, foot-pegs and alloy wheels. The scooter has a split-style footboard. Its saddle is large enough to seat two adults. Besides, it gets anti-theft alarm, keyless entry, and a covered glove box. Also, it has the Find My Scooter function, USB charger, Motor Walking Assistance (forward/reverse motion), and cruise speed lock.

Okinawa Cruiser runs on a 3 kW electric motor which draws power from a 4 kWh lithium-ion battery. It has a top speed of 100 km/h and can climb a gradient of 15 degrees. Also, its detachable battery has a claimed range of 120 km on a single charge. It takes two-three hours to fully charge. The Okinawa Cruiser will have a top speed of 100 km/h. You can expect a launch announcement some time in mid-2020.

5. EeVe Tesero: Upcoming electric bikes in India

OmJay EV is a Bhubaneshwar-based startup and came to the scene at Auto Expo 2020. It showcased two new two-wheelers, Forseti (scooter) and Tesero (motorcycle). The naked street motorcycle would surely catch your attention, which the company developed indigenously. EeVe is one of the 5 upcoming electric bikes in India.

It will have a range of 120 km on a single charge. The Tesero’s Bosch-sourced electric motor is capable of achieving a top speed of 90 km/h to 100 km/h. Key features include digital instrumentation, upside-down front fork, and disc brakes at both ends. While the motorcycle at the Auto Expo was not with ABS, the company claims that it will offer the ABS in the production version.

The EeVe will also offer features like swappable batteries, geo-fencing, geo-tagging, and an immobilizer. The motorcycle will be launched in September. At present, the company is busy in expanding its dealer network with plans to start 200 new centers by December.
