In order to take advantage of the rapidly growing compact car market in India, country’s auto giant Tata Motors has planned a small car named ‘Kite’ for next year. By introducing Kite, company intends to secure a good share in the mass market of compact cars which is currently dominated by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.
Kite would be rolled out by the next year end from the Sanand (Gujarat) plant of Tata Motors and to achieve it, the manufacturer has planned to utilise almost 60% of the total plant capacity for this product only.
Kite is aimed at the large consumer class which needs a vehicle bigger than Nano but smaller than Indica. Tata Motors currently has no options to offer in this segment and is therefore losing this market of tremendous potential. However, the success in this segment will depend entirely on the quality of the product and value for money to the customers. Kite therefore has to stand out from its well settled competitors like Maruti Celerio and Ford Figo.
