In order to grab attention of increasing number of young Indian vehicle buyers, German automaker Mercedes Benz has launched limited edition versions of its popular hatchbacks A class and B class in India at an event that took place in Mumbai. The new models would be recognized as ‘Edition 1’.
“The launch of the ‘Edition 1’ is also an acknowledgement of the strategic significance of the A-Class and B-Class in Mercedes-Benz’s product strategy. We are confident that the New Generation Cars will continue its run of popularity and will introduce new customers to our brand” commented Mr. Boris Fitz, Vice President, Sales & Network Development, Mercedes-Benz India, at the launch function.
Considering the triggered popularity of Diesel vehicles in India, company has decided to offer only Diesel variants of Edition 1 A class & B class which are priced at Rs. 26.17 Lakhs and Rs. 28.75 Lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai). The powerhouse of both the A class and B class Edition 1 is a 2.2 litre four cylinder engine which is coupled to the 7G-DCT 7 speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The engine has a power output of 80 kW @ 3200-4400 rpm and torque is generated of the order of 250 Nm @ 1400-2800 rpm thus enabling the vehicles to achieve a top speed of 190km/h.
On the safety front, Edition 1 A class & B class feature seven airbags, Electronic Stability Program(ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Acceleration Skid Control (ASR), Hill Start Assist with HOLD function and many more. The other exclusive features include a rear camera, a rear centre armrest, new alloy wheel designs etc. making them more attractive and comfortable than before. A matt aluminium ‘Edition 1’ badge present on the headliner distinguishes Edition 1 A class & B class from normal range of these hatchbacks.
