Bike makers to bring a maxi scooter to India

Motorcycle & scooter manufacturers are set to bring the next generation scooters to India. These are maxi-scooters and are bigger in size than a normal scooter. Let’s see which models are headed to India.

Aprilia SXR 125:

Aprilia will announce a 125 cc version of its maxi-scooter which it had unveiled at New Delhi Auto Expo 2020. The Aprilia SXR 125 will look just like the SXR 160 albeit decals. The SXR 125 will get power from the BS6 version of the current Aprilia SR 125’s 125 cc single-cylinder, a three-valve motor. This engine produces 9.5 PS of power and 9.9 Nm of torque in the BS4 version. Possibly, Aprilia will launch the SXR 160 and SXR 125 in the market consecutively at the end of this year or early next year. You can expect a price tag of around Rs 90,000 (ex-showroom).

Suzuki Burgman Maxi Scooter:

Suzuki India had launched the Burgman 125 in 2018 as a premium scooter. The maxi-scooter borrows styling cues from its elder siblings. Globally, Suzuki sells a complete line up of maxi-scooters of different capacities under the Burgman brand. The company recently unveiled the 2020 version of the Burgman 200 which seems a perfect choice for India. Besides, it now offers three color options – white, black, and silver.

Furthermore, it derives power from a 200cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled that puts out 17.7bhp. Just like the earlier model, the maxi-scooter gets a CVT transmission system. The new 2020 Suzuki Burgman 200 gets a 13-inch front wheel at the front along with a 12-inch wheel at the rear. Telescopic forks at the front along with a rear mono-shock perform the suspension duties. A 240mm disc brake for the front wheel along with a single 240mm rear disc handles the braking duties. Besides, these are linked to dual-channel ABS for better safety.

Honda Forza 300:

Honda Forza 300 is the first maxi-scooter from Honda stable in this segment. However, you can expect its arrival in 2020. Honda limited the previous version of the premium automatic scooter to just a few units. However, the company will possibly be selling the 2020 Honda Forza 300 in larger numbers. Powering the scooter is a 279cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which produces 24.8 bhp of peak power and 27.2 Nm of max torque.

Furthermore, the Honda Forza 300 features an on-the-fly electronically adjustable windscreen with a range of 140 mm. Also, the automatic scooter comes with a smart key fob, a 15-inch aluminum-alloy wheel, Honda Selectable Torque Control. Honda will most likely bring the maxi scooter via the CKD route. You can expect the price range between Rs 2.5 to Rs 3.0 lakh.

Aprilia SXR 160 Maxi scooter:

Italian premium brand of motorcycles Aprilia will bring the Aprilia SXR 160 to the Indian market. The maxi-scooter is based on the BS6 SR 160 moto-scooter. It has powertrain and underpinnings of Aprilia’s SR model. However, it gets larger maxi-scooter bodywork. The SXR 160 will be the Aprilia’s flagship model which will help it compete with the Suzuki Burgman Street 150. It flaunts typical maxi-scooter characteristics with sporty and aggressive design.

Besides, it gets a flat footboard, LED lights, multi-function digital display. The Aprilia SR 160 gets power from a 160cc fuel-injected, three-valve engine that delivers 11 PS of power and 11.6 Nm of torque. You can expect the SXR 160 to cost around the Rs 1.20 lakh mark.
