Plans the third production facility in India
Honda Cars India- India’s third largest car maker by volume has geared up to boost its production capacity to taste new heights in Asian Market, as it announces its plan to set up one more production plant in Gujarat, India. Honda Cars India is a fully owned subsidiary of the Japanese car giant Honda Motor Company Ltd. The main function of this new plant would be to produce the vehicle for export, in turn making India as a major export hub of Honda.
At present, Honda owns two production facilities in India. One of them is situated in Greater Noida, Utter Pradesh while another is at Tapukara, Rajasthan. The total production capacity of both these plants sums to 2.4 lakh units annually.
While announcing company’s plan of third manufacturing plant, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, “The land acquisition is at a very preliminary phase. The third plant is part of Honda’s long-term commitment to the Indian market. We are yet to finalise the plans for the third plant and the entire process is at a very preliminary stage.” at the annual convention of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’ (SIAM) in New Delhi. The company is currently working out various measures to increase production from its Tapukara plant to cater the growing demand of Honda cars in India he added further. Operating the plant in second shift is one such measure.
Honda Cars India has witnessed an overwhelming growth of 88% in August 2014 selling 16,758 units compared to 8,913 units sold in the corresponding month of the previous year. According to the company, the growth in sales is driven by City, Amaze and recently introduced MPV Mobilio.
