Hero Electric To Bring An Electric Motorcycle To India
Hero Electric recently unveiled an electric sports bike – the Hero AE-47. The new motorcycle offers a sporty ride and better range in its class. Hero AE-47 is the first-ever electric motorcycle that Hero displayed at the 2020 Auto Expo. The company aims to launch this electric bike by 2021. Earlier, Hero Electric introduced the first Lithium-ion based electric scooter in India. It also presented a distinct idea of charging stations for anywhere and everywhere usage. Hero Electric intends to keep the price of AE-47 electric bike below Rs 2 lakh when it launches the bike in India in 2021.
Hero AE-47 comes with a round LED headlamp with LED DRLs which gives it a classic retro look. The side fairings are made of fibre plastic which helps to reduce the overall weight of the motorcycle. The battery is located underneath the now-defunct fuel tank and takes place of the petrol engine. It is hiding behind the fibre panels for better aesthetics. Besides, there are air vents on the side panels for cooling the battery. You can charge the battery through the charging point located underneath the now-defunct fuel tank's cap. You can use the space inside the non-existing fuel tank for storage.
Hero AE-47 Motor & Power:
Further, the electric motorcycle gets power from a 4000W motor and has a top speed of 85km/h. It comes with a lithium-ion 48V/3.5 kWh battery pack which is fixed and can’t be removed. On charging for about 4 hours, it delivers a range of 85 Km per charge in power mode, 160 km per charge in eco mode. Besides, it can accelerate from 0-60 km/h in 9 seconds.
Brakes & Tyres:
The electric bike features a progressive combi-brake system with 290 mm dia disc at the front and 215mm dia disc at the rear. The motorcycle offers upside-down forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. The front tyre is of 17” size while the rear is 16”. Hero AE-47 comes with a ground clearance of 210mm which is good for Indian riding conditions.
Hero AE-47 Features:
Furthermore, the electric bike gets Cruise Control system which is first in class. It also offers a digital instrument cluster, keyless access, mobile charger, walk assist and reverse options. The motorcycle gets support from a mobile app containing GPS, GPRS, realtime tracking and Geofencing.
Currently, the electric motorcycle sources its major components such as the motor and the battery pack from China. However, the company intends to indigenise the bike to close to 70 per cent. This will help the electric bike be competitive in the Indian market.
