Chennai Auto Hub to double the vehicle production by 2020:

Chennai Auto Hub is all set to become the World's largest automotive manufacturing hub. To give a strong boost to the economy and to ensure the consistency in its performance, India's Tamil Nadu state government has decided to increase the vehicle production capacity of Chennai Auto Hub to fifty Lakh (5 million) units by the year 2020. This target will be achieved by expanding the current production units, as well as by the way of setting up the new plants; for which the state government will offer some incentives to the Auto-Industry. Currently, the total installed production capacity per annum of Chennai auto Hub is nearly fourteen Lakhs for the passenger cars and approximately 3.5 Lakh for the commercial vehicles and it proudly hosts the production plants of some of the world’s largest car-makers like Daimler, BMW, Ford, Nissan, Renault, Hyundai etc. and also homegrown brands such as Ashok Leyland & TVS Motors.

Policy makers have also decided to assist the component manufacturers who play a vital role in auto-industry.
